T-Splines Pipe Command Tutorial

  • Create a closed polyline on XZ plane
  • Copy the polyline to Y axis twice
  • Rotate / scale each section
  • Connect corners
  • Run T-Splines Pipe tool
    • Radius = 1
    • Segments = 2

A. Halftone filter

  1. Open one of your field image files in Photoshop
  2. Image – Image Size – Change Resolution to 300 / Change Width to 1200
  3. Image – Mode – Grayscale
  4. Image – Level – Change your image until darkest area is about 50% gray
  5. Image – Brightness and Contrast – Brighten image
  6. Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur – 3pt
  7. Filter – Pixelate – Color Halftone – Max Radius 25 – Everything else 0
  8. If the circles are overlapping, go back to step 4 and 5, and make the image lighter

B. Draw Path

  1. Select – Color Range – Click on Black area – Ok
  2. Window – Path – Path Option – Make work path – Tolerance 2.0
  3. File – Export – Paths to Illustrator

  1. Import the illustrator file
  2. Rebuild – 4 segments – 3 degree curve
  3. Scale to fit in 10×10″ bounding box
  4. Laser cut

Assignment 6.0

  1. Laser-cut halftone pattern on 1/8″ plexiglass @10″x10″
  2. Vacum-form the cut pattern into some kind of surface.
  3. Bring the model to next class.
  4. Take 2+ photos of the model and upload images to your page.
